Orientation to the zoom H one Essentials
With the device lying on a table, and the screen furthest away from you, the microphones are located at the very top edge. These microphones cannot be detached.
Along the left-hand side, you have an 8th inch headphone, connector, and directly below that is the volume knob. Continuing down the left edge of the zoom Essentials you'll find the power switch. Pull the switch down towards you and hold it for a second, and then release to turn the device on. Note that the switch is spring loaded.
If you'd like to lock the buttons on the device, press the power switch up or away from you, you feel the switch click into place.
On the right edge of the device at the top is an 8th inch line in connection, moving your finger down you'll find two screws these are located both on the top and bottom of the USB-C connector. The USB-C connector can be used for power, file transfer, and to turn your H1Essentials into an external microphone. Continuing down the right side you'll find a single button; this is the menu button.
Directly below the menu button is a flush flap that you can open for access to the microSD card slot.
To insert the microSD card, place it in the device with the ridge facing up and out. Press the card in until you feel the resistance and push a little harder for it to lock into place. Close the flap to protect the microSD card slot.
The Front Face
On the front face of the device directly below the screen are four soft buttons. These buttons have different functions, depending on the location of the system that they're pressed in.
The button on the left is the back or info button. Use this button to navigate back in the menus or to get more information/take action on a file.
- The second button from the left is the up button. This button also cycles through the low cut functions that are available on this device. This also takes you up or to the previous option in the menu when making selections.
- The third button from the right is the down button, and this is used to navigate forward or down in the menu. It also serves as a mark button when recording, press once to insert a marker when recording.
- The right most button serves as a confirmation button, use this button to activate the menu option you hear.
Directly below these four buttons are another five buttons.
- The middle button is used for recording, press it once and you'll hear a single beep confirming that you are recording. Press it again and you'll hear two beeps confirming that the recording has stopped.
- The button on the left of the row above the recording button is stop, and the button on the right is play. NOTE: The Play Pause button is also used as a mute button when you're using the H1Essentials as an external microphone for a computer or smart phone.
- The button on the left of the row below the recording button is previous, and the button on the right below the recording button is next.
